A New Model For Health And Disease – Page 144

The natural, healthy tendency of the organism is to stay in the higher regions of its level unless it is stressed. If it is stressed with a transient stressor it may drop to the lower or lowest regions of its present level.

Figure 27

Figure 2 7: An organism which is at level "E" will tend to move up and down within its own level if the stressor is only mild.
But if it is stressed further by a stronger stressor, it may drop to another level altogether, which is lower in hierarchy.
This chronic disease state has always been marked by a quantum jump or essential change in energy patterns within the organism.
An example of this is an individual suffering from a common cold or influenza; as long as the cold lasts he feels pretty bad and his general state of health seems to drop, but his general chronic condition will not change and he will be back to his "pre-cold" state after the cold ends. If the acute condition is more serious, he will reach the lowest regions of his level and then subsequently return to the upper regions, once his recovery is complete. The same process may take place to a greater or lesser
