Retention of urine, with constipation.
Male Genitalia
Testicles drawn upward to external abdominal ring.
Dull stitches in the fossa navicularis.
Nocturnal ejaculation without erotic dreams.
Sore, drawing pain under the penis, extending to the glans, which creates an urge to urinate.
Female Genitalia
Onset of menses delayed; menarche delayed. If this is the case, violent spasmodic states can make their appearance, as in a case of Bethmann where a girl of 17 years, who had not yet menstruated, developed most painful attacks of opisthotonus, one after another in quick succession.
Neuralgia of the coccyx during menses.
Nausea, vertigo and disturbances of vision, during pregnancy.
Convulsions during pregnancy, during labour, or in puerperium; very violent, with strange contortions of the limbs and upper part of the body, bluish face, and frequent interruptions of breathing for several moments.
Neck and Back
The muscles of the neck are subject to tonic spasms with contraction, urging the head backward, sometimes with tremor of the hands and weeping and sobbing. They may become as hard as wood during the spasm.
‘A kind of spasm in the cervical muscles; if he turns the head, he cannot turn it back at once, because the cervical muscles do not yield, and if he tries to enforce it, he feels much pain.’ Tension and a sensation of shortening of the cervical muscles is very characteristic.
Opisthotonus, ‘back bent backward like an arch,’ is a key-note. May be preceded by a ‘shock feeling’ in the epigastrium and renewed by every touch or noise.
