In intermittent fever, Causticum has a peculiar symptom concerning the sequence: chill immediately followed by sweat, without intervening heat.
Night sweats, all over the body. Awakens at 4 a.m. bathed in sweat. Profuse perspiration from motion, especially in the open air.
Profuse sweat when sleeping during the day.
Remarkable sensations of coldness: for example as if cold air were blowing between the scapulae, or as if cold water were running from the clavicle to the toes along a narrow line.
Skin
Much itching: over whole body; at various parts: nose, face, back, calves, dorsi of feet, etc.
Soreness in folds of skin, especially between thighs; tendency to intertrigo. Causticum produces not only soreness and rawness as if burnt, but also subacute and chronic eruptions similar to the blisters of burns. It is an important remedy in the effects of burns and scalds. If there are old cicatrices, especially of burns, they become sore again and re-open.
Warts. The Causticum warts are found in the face (nose, eyelids, eyebrows) and hands (fingertips); they tend to be large and jagged, often pedunculate, exuding moisture and bleeding easily.
Varicose and fistular ulcers; ulcers with jerking pain running through. Nettle-rash, violently itching.
