that Causticum develops chorea ‘from imitation’ as the Repertory says, which means: ‘When she sees a case of chorea she gets it herself’ (Hering). But even then, it is not fear and anxiety that play the main role in triggering the diseased condition.
Causticum has many symptoms in common with Phosphorus. One of them is that stomach pain is also ameliorated by cold drinks (also compare Bismuthum, Bryonia, Phosphorus, Sepia).
Failing Memory and Routines
As the Causticum pathology progresses, the mental processes are affected, and the memory slowly deteriorates. A typical expression of that deterioration is an inability to recall such mundane trivia as whether or not they turned off the stove or locked the door. They forget what they have just done. Such questions will come to mind after they go to bed or leave the house. They are confused and lack an awareness of events of the moment.
They may mechanically fry an egg and eat it. Subsequently they promptly forget that they have eaten. Such forgetfulness often leads, in more advanced cases, to various routines in the life of Causticum patients. For example, after going to bed they will be unable to remember if they turned off the stove, so they establish a habit of checking the stove before going to bed.
