THE ESSENTIAL FEATURES
Typical Corallium individuals belong to those unfortunates who, often from quite early in life, live in a state of constant irritation of the upper respiratory system. They seem to get one cold after another, which leave them with a constant cough. For instance, Corallium can be indicated in ‘never-ending’ colds, chronic coryza, chronic sinusitis and recurring tonsillitis if the colds follow each other so closely that the patient is more or less sick all year.
A characteristic cough, which has been described by Guernsey, is ‘machine gun cough’: ‘Whooping cough or any other kind of cough, very rapid cough, and attacks follow so closely as to almost run into each other’. This ‘running into each other’ is not only found in acute cases.
This remedy will be often confused with Mercury because of their common reaction to both hot and cold. In any case, the general feeling is that Corallium is ameliorated in the open air, especially in respiratory problems.
The Mental Picture
It is interesting to observe in this individual that, in the same way that his nose is bothering him by constantly running, his mind follows the same pattern. Snivelling, tearful whining, and complaints are ‘run- ning out’ from him in a similar way that the nose is running. In his
