Celle Seminar I, Case 16: Rheumatoid Arthritis

orrhinum starts feeling better. Medorrhinum feels happier and freer the more the sun sets, the darker it becomes. As the night progresses he feels full of energy. For example, if he were a Greek business man, then by 10:00 or 11:00 at night he’ll have finished his work in his office in Athens. He’ll pick up the telephone, dial a friend, and say, »Let’s go out!« By 11:00 p.m., they are in the restaurant, by 2:00 a.m., they are enjoying themselves and he is full of energy. Do you see the difference? It is an evening amelioration, and these patients stay up late into the night. Students who are Medorrhinum will study from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. During the day their minds are on their girlfriends, or some distraction or another; so they have trouble concentrating. Their minds are weak. But at night their minds become strong, firm, and they feel well. Then they’ll say, »Yes, the night is good for me!« We have to apply this information to individuals.
(A.22): I think there are a lot of hints pointing towards Calca-rea phosphorica, perhaps constitutionally because of the warts on the sole of her foot and because she seemed to be dissatisfied, and she quarrels about every detail. I think the idea of the grief is new. A number of things are typical of Calcarea phosphorica: the situation after bad news and the changeable situation with milk, worse from cold and wet-cold. Another point that I think is very important is she said that she is still breast-feeding. That means a substantial loss of Calcium, which can aggravate the situation very much.
(A.23): There is the rubric fear of misfortune and there you find Medorrhinum in the fourth degree. Can you explain the difference between fear of misfortune and fear of something happening?
(G.V.): It is just what it says, fear of misfortune. These people are afraid of some misfortune, of something misfortunate happening to them. The other is fears something will happen, which is a fear of some sort of accident or of hearing very bad news, or perhaps a fear of something very odd, like an encounter with extraterrestrial beings.
