Celle Seminar I, Case 10: Neurodermatitis

ration. You wait and wait, but there are still pains and deformities. Then you have to realize that you can’t do anymore; you’ve already given the correct remedy and that has to be enough. Just wait. If you were to try now to improve your case, you would just wind up spoiling it.
Let’s look at another example of what I mean. Take the case of psoriasis we saw earlier that has been going on for twenty years. You will not be able to clear up the patient’s skin completely because, after twenty years, there are bound to be patches and/or scars remaining. And because you know that other symptoms can come about with a suppressed case of psoriasis, you understand that it is better that the patient suffer a bit from psoriasis than from something else, perhaps something worse.
(A.8): In such a case where the disease is located on the skin, how long would you expect the first aggravation to last? This is a very difficult question to answer. Is it a correct aggravation? Was the remedy given correct, or was it the wrong remedy?
(G.V.): As I’ve said before, you can aggravate without really curing in such cases. I have noticed something very important: if you have made an intelligent prescription based on facts, you will always see, even if your remedy is not right, that if you wait, the organism is forced in the right direction, towards a clearer picture of a more suitable remedy. This is what Hahnemann meant when he spoke of partial diseases. Hahnemann said that sometimes he could and simultaneously could not see the remedy; but by giving one remedy anyway, a clear picture of the next, more far-reaching remedy could develop. Today we have an increase in the number of such cases, and that’s why we may not see an amelioration after we’ve given a remedy. Even if you feel you’ve accomplished nothing, you still have to try and be patient and wait. If you’ve given an intelligent prescription and you’re able to wait long enough, you’ll eventually see the next remedy. This is my experience. On those occasions when I’ve lost a case it has usually been due to the fact that I was in a hurry to prescribe one remedy after the other. This can happen when you feel yourself under pressure to cure. For example, you hear a symp-
