(F.P.): …neck is on the same level it was in September.
(G.V.): What she says is very important. She thinks to herself, »How can he find out? I can tell him whatever I like!« Her voice betrays everything. When you see headaches with the sort of in-tensity that she reports, you would expect her to talk about them with a different intonation if she was really suffering. But she looks at her notes instead, and then she describes what she feels. Let’s see a bit more.

(F.P.): …on the same level it was on in September. I had phlebitis in my right calf last week, and-(G. V.): Only for a few days? (F.P.): Yes, ten days ago. (G. V.): And how long did it last?
(F.P.): It lasted three days. It felt like both calves were swollen. But this is nothing new, it has been going on a long time. (G.V.): What else? What about the headaches? What do you mean by migraines? Can you describe them? (F.P.): It changes from one side to the other; one time on the right side, next time on the left side, and-(G. V.): Do they always alternate like that? (F.P.): It’s not exactly alternating, but it often changes from one side to the other.
(G. V.): Where do you feel the pain, above the eye, in the temple, behind-
(F.P.): For instance, the entire side.
(G.V.): What time does it come, and what time does it go? (F.P.): Sometimes half a day, sometimes two days. (G.V.): Is it severe, or is it tolerable?
(F.P.): The pain is tolerable, but the concomitants are often intolerable: there is vertigo, a very bad vertigo, and vomiting.
