(Boy): »I am Christian.«
(G.V.): »Do you pray?«
(Boy): »Yes, I pray.« (very dramatic)
(G. V.): » Why do you say it that way?«
(Boy): »I do not know, I have not talked about it with anybody.
I just go to my room, kneel down and pray; not for five minutes
or ten, but for an hour or two at a time! I feel that I need to do
that.«
Aurum was the remedy. It took away the swelling, the pain, everything. That kind of information is very, very important. Now, the next thing I am going to ask our patient is a very natural follow-up: How much has his religion affected his relationships?

(G. V): You cry out of pain, but are you desperate about it?
(M.P.): In these moments yes, because I have no idea how I can
stop it, I cannot do anything about the pains-
(G. V.): Can you describe for me what you do when it gets that
bad? Do you just sit there or lie down? Are you restless, or do
you walk around and cry, moan? How do you cry? Do you sob,
or do you scream?
(M.P.): Yes, because the pain comes in waves.

(G.V.): I am posing these questions for your sake. I would like you to understand how we get information and how I eventually decipher the correct remedy from this information. Using descriptions of different people who I’ve observed or had experience with, I draw up an outline of what I know about the case and the possible remedies. This is the way you should be learning the materia medica. For example, you ask the patient to describe how he cries and then you receive details about a general phenomenon. It is very difficult under these circumstances to obtain
