George Vithoulkas

Case 7: Fabry-Anderson Syndrome

INTERVIEW (VIDEO)

(G.V.): How old are you? (M.P.): I’m twenty-one years old. (G.V.): What are you suffering from? (M.P.): I’m suffering from Fabry syndrome. (G.V.): What are your symptoms, what are you experiencing? (M.P.): It started when I was six years old after a normal disease. I had pains in my feet, like stitching and burning pains. And later, every time I did any sort of real active sports, like running or anything that made my blood rush, my feet would start to hurt. They hurt even when it gets hot. It started in the feet, and as I got older it moved to the fingers. After a time the pain stopped in the feet and now it’s mainly in the fingers.
(G.V.): You said that you have burning, stitching pains when you exert yourself and when you run? (M.P.): Running or any exertion. (G.V.): All over your feet, or just on the soles? (M.P.): Mostly on the toes, except when I’m swimming in cold water, which seems to help. I could do everything if I could only swim in cold water at the same time. (G.V.): And you need cold water to soothe the pain? (M.P.): Yes, that helps the most. In the summer, in hot weather, I feel a burning pain. If I go into a cold lake or cold water the pain stops completely, only to return when I get too hot again. (G.V.): Hot weather affects you? If it becomes warm, do the pains increase?
(M.P.): Yes, and they’re always accompanied by fever. If I have a fever then I always feel pains. (G.V.): How high a fever? (M.P.): Half a degree is enough.
