cannot do that!« As a child the person has these sorts of feelings, when he grows up they become more and more acute, until he reaches a stage of childish behavior like that often seen with old people. Such a person will still be able to function, he will do his work; and often the people around him will even say that he is capable, but that he lacks self-confidence. The lack of self-confidence in Anacardium is something unbelievable, it is completely beyond any logical understanding. If you ask why the person feels as he does, he will say: »I don’t know, I just feel I can’t.« Even if you reassure him that he’s done well, he’ll still express doubt about his ability. It is really pathological. Baryta carbonica is not capable in general, and his lack of self-confidence is usually coupled with indecision. If you go to the repertory, you will see »indccision«; Baryta carbonica in capitals. For example, suppose a Baryta carbonica woman decides that she has to buy a house; she goes with her husband to see a house, and the man selling it wants to sell quickly and is therefore willing to give it away for half price. The Baryta carbonica woman will be indecisive, she will bring up completely stupid objections:
(Wife): »Yes it’s cheap, but behind the house there is a huge mountains (Husband): »Yes, but then you have the view of the mountain!« (Wife): »Yes, but the view is not perfect.«
Even if the house is being offered for one third of the price, for one tenth of the price, she will nevertheless find some irrational objection which prevents her from making a concrete decision to buy the house. A logically minded person will not understand the way that Baryta carbonica thinks. Another example of Baryta carbonica reasoning: (Woman): »If I stop the pills, I’ll get pregnant!« (Man): »Don’t worry, we just won’t have sex.« (Woman): »But still, I can’t stop taking the pills.« (Man): »How would you get pregnant?« (Woman): »I don’t know.«
The lack of self-confidence in these two remedies, both capitals, is totally different; there is no comparison between them. One will show the type of lack of self-confidence that says: »My brother is good, I am not.« The lack of self-confidence in Baryta carbonica is so great that they cannot face a challenge at all, whereas Anacardium can face challenges. Once the challenge comes Anacardium faces it, he does what is necessary. Baryta carbonica does not have the energy or the mental energy to face the challenges. You have to understand that Baryta carbonica may also be a very
