Celle Seminar I, Case 18: Epilepsy

(G. V.): Were you injured?
(M.P.): Not really. I had another scalp injury, kind of a concussion.
(G. V): Did you lose your memory after the second accident for awhile? (M.P.): Yes.
LIVE
(G.V.): Tell me something about this patient.
(A.l): He has difficulty understanding. He has to concentrate in order to catch everything that is being asked.
(G.V.): What about his character?
(A.2): He is a bit accident-prone. He drank a lot.
(G.V.): What appears to me to be a contradiction from his past history is that he was quite reckless. This is good information about his personality. By looking into the individual features you can reconstruct his life and then build an image of the sort of person he is. Is he a scientist?
(A.): (unanimous) No!
(A.3): We see a materialistic person who likes to eat and drink. I didn’t understand very well whether the person in the car with him-
(G.V.): The other person died.
(A.4): Because he was drunk, he doesn’t seem to feel guilty about it. He has big bags under his eyes, which tells you that he indulged in a lot of excesses, that he drank and lived excessively, did not sleep a lot and did all kinds of other things. There must have been a turning point in his life, like you see with an alcoholic who has finally hit rock bottom. I am not sure whether it was the car accident that killed his friend or maybe his brain operation, but at some point he realized that he couldn’t go on like that anymore. I saw that in his face.
(A.5): He also took the anti-epileptic drugs for twelve years.
(A.6): But he looks like a Sulphur patient: he cannot form his own theories and come to conclusions on his own.
