Celle Seminar I, Case 13: Chorioretinitis

(A.7): What would have happened if you had given Calcarea carbonica in the first place?
(G.V.): I have no way of knowing. Unfortunately these comparisons are impossible in homeopathy, because once you have given a remedy, you can never say what might have happened with another remedy; you just never can tell. The only thing you can do is give Calcarea carbonica. If it does not act, then you can give Baryta carbonica. If this second remedy also doesn’t act, you can go back to Calcarea carbonica because then it might have an effect. We’ve seen this type of thing happen before.
(A.8): How do we use the symptoms and the things that happened in her life, for example, the cystitis and other symptoms? How do we interpret them? How do we use these in the picture of Baryta carbonica} And is there maybe another remedy coming afterwards?
(G.V.): No, the chorioretinitis from which she is suffering is not a disease that we can say belongs to this or that remedy, although we do have some remedies that primarily affect eyesight. Baryta carbonica comes in second or third place. However, this doesn’t mean anything because Baryta carbonica can still contain the pathology we see here.
Concerning her cystitis, we have other remedies for cystitis: Sarsaparilla, Cannabis, Cantbaris, Natrutn carbonicum, etc. Nonetheless, Baryta carbonica may be the remedy that covers cystitis in this case. We are not restricted by pathology in remedies. You must remember that, although we are guided sometimes by pathology in order to find the remedy (if we do not have enough other information), we are never restricted by it. We should not say that because a certain remedy is not known to produce or heal such and such pathology it shouldn’t be given. As long as the remedy fits the picture we see of the person, it will take care of the pathology no matter what it is. That’s why I say that, with this case of chorioretinitis, the remedy could be anything. I inquired deeper into the person in order to assess what has taken place. What I see is that a deep conflict has taken place inside her, or perhaps you could call it a deep doubt. This is what
