Celle Seminar I, Case 10: Neurodermatitis

of his mother’s family, but more probably because of the father. We see this especially when she describes the child’s character and when she says that the baby’s father grinds his teeth at night. All this points to a strong tubercular tendency in the family. If you do not run this case through the computer but depend on the repertory alone, then the primary remedy is Tuberculinum.
(A.7): The child did not grow during the last twelve months, so we could look under the rubric dwarfism. And if you combine this with teeth-grinding and vaccinations, then you could consider Lycopodium as well.
(G.V.): Well, the child also has some desires that do not fit Lycopodium: desires bananas and potatoes. The desire for potatoes has been accentuated; it is the last symptom written in the report. He also has an aversion to bread.
We would give Tuber culinum in this case, a dose of C30, not too high, expecting an aggravation for perhaps a few days. We would expect to see another remedy coming up underneath, most probably one of the Calcareas, maybe Calcarea carbonica or Calcarea phosphorica, especially Calcarea phosphorica if the crying and moaning continues. If the child begins to perspire more around the neck and a desire for eggs develops, this would point us towards Calcarea carbonica as a possible remedy.
At the moment I am not sure in what direction the child will go after taking Tuber culinum. It could be that Tuber culinum will take a lot away, or maybe we will have to wait awhile before giving the next remedy. In any case, I don’t believe that Tuberculi-num will clear up his skin problem. One thing you have to understand is that everyone of us tends to make a mistake. In a case like this, the itching is the most disturbing symptom. Because he is a baby, we are not concerned directly with aesthetics here, just with the uncomfortable itchiness. Even if the itching were to improve, the eruptions would still remain the same. Don’t let yourself be discouraged! The itching will decrease month after month, slowly but surely, and then after a few months you will also begin to see changes in his skin. This is one possible reaction. But if his mother says that the eruptions are the
