(G.V.): Here we have a phenomenon which is a combination of things. But let me ask you a question: Do you think he was arrogant? "Who says no? Who says yes?
(A.ll): I found it interesting that he considered other people, less intelligent people, to be beneath his level. One might interpret this as arrogance, but personally I don’t think that he was arrogant. He just wanted to talk to people who have something in their heads and not people who rely on computers, (laughter, someone applauds)
(G.V.): (laughs) I very seldom rely on a computer.
(A.12): I think he is arrogant and disobedient. He didn’t like the fact that you were in a position of power compared to him. He did not like the power structure of the situation, so he rebelled against it.
(G.V.): As you found out quite early along in the interrogation, he had a problem with his father, one that he did not want to talk about. What could the problem have been? The problem could have been a problem of class between the two. He feels that his father, who is a symbol of authority, may crush him, and therefore he stands up to him. He reacts, he displays defense mechanisms that are totally different from those in the case of Aurum sulphuratum we saw earlier. He stands up here and refus¬es to accept pressure. »I am going to resist any kind of pressure, no matter what it is!« That is a defense mechanism, and maybe it comes from being sensitive. Someone said that there is a sensitivity underneath and that he may be afraid of getting crushed. There is, however, definitely a point in his past filled with tremendous anger due to his father having rejected him. He must have looked upon his father as something very good. At the point when this clash took place between the two of them, he saw that his father did not accept him as a distinct personality, therefore he had to stand up to him. He stood up to his father in that particular way because of the underlying remedy, a remedy that does not accept pressure and doesn’t want to be pushed. This in turn came out as arrogance. He was forced to think about a lot of different things in life because he had not attained very much.
