Celle Seminar I, Case 5: Myelogenous Leukemia

(M.P.): Possibly.
(Therapist): But he is ambitious where his acting is concerned. (M.P.): Yes, but I’m not trying to collect decorations and distinctions, I just want to achieve something that is rewarding for me personally. For example, one thing that really bothers me is that today’s acting world has become an Olympic championship. It is even organized like one. Every country has a couple of top actors who are pitted against those from other countries for the top position. The innocence is lacking.
(G.V.): Does it bother you to wear a tie? Do you have to loosen it up?
(M.P.): If the tie is loose, I don’t mind wearing it, but if the knot is tight, I can’t stand it. I also can’t stand tight-necked pullovers; I wind up fussing around the neck when I wear them. Are we finished already?
(G.V.): Do you want to finish?
(M.P.): If you think you can get something out of me that might help my situation, I’ll stay. (G.V.): You said you had a brother? (M.P.): Two brothers. (G. V.): Do you get along with them?
(M.P.): One of them is very difficult to get along with and the other one is more easy going. But I don’t have a deep relationship with either one of them.
(G. V.): In your emotional, romantic relationships, were you jealous?
(M.P.): Once in my life I got really jealous, and I broke up a relationship because the feeling got to be too strong for me. I can’t stand being jealous, it’s like being in prison; so, I got out of that relationship because I was afraid of being overwhelmed by jealousy.
(G. V.): You were afraid of your emotions? (M.P.): I was getting too involved and I wanted to be free. (G. V.): You were becoming attached to the other person and you felt that you were losing your freedom? (M.P.): Yes.
