George Vithoulkas

(G.V.): Do you like Japanese food? (M.P.): Yes.
(G.V.): Do you feel a connection with japan or something like that?
(M.P.): Yes, the master of the macrobiotic ideal in Europe was Japanese.
(G.V.): Did you live with him?
(M.P.): No, he’s dead. He died in 1961, or sometime around then.
(G.V.): Do you follow his instructions?
(M.P.): I try to follow his ideas, beliefs. He had very strong beliefs.
(G.V.): Do you like having a strong discipline to follow? (M.P.): I get the feeling that it’s necessary for me, but I used to feel differently.
(G.V.): Do you now have the urge to follow a strong discipline? (M.P.): Yes.
(G.V.): Did you follow some of the Japanese techniques, like martial arts?
(M.P.); Yes. I started with martial arts three years ago when I was twenty-five, then I stopped because I went abroad. Then I developed leukemia. Now I’ve started again with a different sort of martial arts. (G.V.): Why?
(M.P.): I changed from Judo to a softer style. (G.V.): And you liked the softer one? (M.P.): Yes, it is more aesthetically pleasing. (G.V.): You don’t like aggression?
(M.P.): It depends on what sort of aggression; if it is a positive aggression, then it’s okay. (G.V.): You can take it? (M.P.): Yes.
(G. V.): When did you go into martial arts? (M.P.): I started at the age of fourteen.
(G. V.): What was the idea behind it? Did you want to be able to defend yourself, or was it in order to be strong, a hero?
